Raised in a family of artists, Bweela developed an early appreciation for creativity, storytelling, and craftsmanship. Her father, the late John L. Steptoe, was the Caldecott Honor-winning author and illustrator of Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters. His artistic legacy continues to influence Bweela’s work, inspiring her to create fashion that celebrates culture, individuality, and meaningful expression.
